" Oh my, I can't continue pulling this string forever. My hands are tired and.. bwwekkkk .... "

Arrghh ! Not on my foot you don't ! Squirt somewhere else..

What :
Candat Sotong or Squid Jigging.

Why :
For fun.
Heard of Candat Sotong before, but never tried it.
So when a friend finally invited me along, my answer was yes.

Where :
South China Sea.
Off the coast of Tok Bali, probably between Melawi and Tok Bali.
One and a half hours by boat from the shore.

When :
The whole night ( 1900 hrs ~ the next day 1100 hrs ! )

Who :
Me and fellow officemates.
Not to forget, Pok Li, the fishing boat skipper and his teenage helper.

How :
Special multiple barbless hook for squid fishing.
I prefer using a fishing rod rather than the reputedly popular spool.
To me, jigging seems easier and less tiring when using the rod.
Plus, using real fish as a squid lure seems much better too than the relying on the fake ones.
Other helpful gadgets are high intensity lights to attract squids and of course, a fishing boat to reach the favored point.
( Btw, I learned from the internet that the light itself do not attract squids but attracts planktons or small fish which the squids love to feed. Really ? )

My verdict ? :
Really fun indeed and worthwhile especially when the squid itself is not a cheap commodity.
Bountiful harvest is not rare and there is a great chance that you won't return home empty handed.
Unless you are a chronic seasick type of person, than you must try this.
April to July is the best season here in the East Coast and there are loads of operators,
operating from Kelantan to Pahang, taking people out to sea for squid jigging at a considerable fee.

Give it a try !
