A Japanese Tabloid and the MB

One of many things that I like
is to hear (or read) what foreigners think of those things that made me.

Seeing myself as a part of the state of Kelatte,
I finally decided to share this piece with my dear visitors who might wish
to see a part of Kelatte,
which is beyond the normally unseen.

Here I would like to share an interview.
It was conducted by the president of NICHIMA PRESS * himself, Mr. Watanabe Akihiko, with the current Menteri Besar of Kelantan, Tuan Guru Dato' Haji Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat on 16 May 2005 ( quite out-dated ), focusing on the state of Kelantan, which I think, perhaps the very first time ever conducted with the MB ( Menteri Besar = Chief Minister ) by a local Japanese independant tabloid.

Read:
" Kerantanshuu no shidousha, Nikku Ajisu Shusekidaijin ni kiku, Negatibu na Ime-ji, Sore wa Gokai "
( Interview with the Kelantan State Leader, The Chief Minister Nik Aziz : " Negative Images Come From Misunderstanding " )

Mr. Watanabe started his report with this remark :

Quote:

Read:
" { Amari ni mo Isuramushiki no koi, kageki na hatsugensha } to Mareishia no masukomi ya Fujindantai kara hinan wo abiru koto ga aru. Shikashi, me no mae de miru, soshite, iro iro to hanashi wo shite kureta Nikku Ajisu Daijin ni wa hageshisa wa kanjirarenai. Sawayaka de, shinken ni shuu no hito bito no koto wo omoiyatteiru to iu koto ga tsutawatte kuru. Watashi tachi, Nihonjin no ooku ga rikai dekinai de iru, Kerantan shuu to Nikku Ajisu Shusekidaijin wo, Daijin gojishin ni ukagatta ~ "
Translated:
" { A man who is fiercely Islamist, like to burn the nation with his extreme words } as he is portrayed by the Malaysian mass media and even by the Women Movement. However, I saw him with my own eyes, and even talked to him myself, I could feel and sincerely conclude that Mr. Nik Aziz is not as "ferocious" as portrayed by the media. I could see from him a man of gentle nature, but serious in helping out the people of Kelantan. We, the Japanese hardly know Kelantan state and also this man, thus I decided to meet and talk to him myself ~ "

And Mr. Watanabe finally closed the interview report with this conclusion :

Quote:

Read:
" Intabyuu mae wa muzukashii hito to iu senniuukan ga arimashita ga, Nikku Ajisu Shusekidaijin wa sekkyokuteki ni jibun kara hanashite kudasaimashita. Shuu no hito bito ga Isuramu no oshie ni shitagatte, heiwa de juujitsu shita seikatsu ga okureru you ni to no negai, to iu yori jounetsu ga gokai wo undeiru koto wo kanjimashita. Seijitsu de seikou ketsuhaku na hitogara wa, Nihon no seijika ni wa nai mono desu.
Nikku Ajisu Shusekidaijin to o aishi, intabyuu dekita koto wo kansha shimasu. "

Watanabe Akihiko

Translated:
" Before the interview, I had a feeling that this man must be very difficult to talk to, to discuss with.
During the interview, the Chief Minister Nik Aziz spoke everything from himself in the most positive manner. From the interview, I could conclude that he wish that the people would live in accordance to the Islamic way, live in peace and harmony within the framework of Islam. Which, unfortunately, his good will and strong passion to the Islamic path has led him to be misunderstood by some people.
Then I finally realised that he is a sincere, clean and honest man, who we can't find any person of such quality among Japanese politicians nowadays.
To meet Mr. Nik Aziz, and for the successful interview, thank you very much. "

Watanabe Akihiko

The conclusion made by Mr. Watanabe in the end of the interview attracted my attention.
If he means it like the way I believed he means,
as a Kelantanese, I should be impressed and proud.

Some Trivias:
*NICHIMA PRESS = a Japanese tabloid printed only in Malaysia, for the Malaysian market, targetting Japanese nationals ( expat. etc ) currently living or doing business in Malaysia. Focusing mainly on Malaysian and regional news. Official site : http://www.nichimapress.com/

*I drove Mr. Watanabe to the Chief Minister office at Kota Darulnaim, Kota Bharu for this interview,
that was after his interview session and lunch with my company. He was accompanied by an assistant and a Japanese translator who came with him all the way from Kuala Lumpur just for the interviews.
