FILLER ENTRY : Amin Sweeney's Karya Lengkap Abdullah Munsyi

.

FILLER ENTRY :

Karya Lengkap Abdullah bin Abdul Kadir Munsyi - Jilid 1

" Karya Lengkap Abdullah bin Abdul Kadir Munsyi - Jilid 1 "

= " o-susume desu ! " )

PREBIU BUKU :

Quote:

Abdullah memang kontroversial. Amin Sweeney, seorang muslim asal Irlandia,
Filolog Keasberry, menurut Amin, bahkan mengubah gaya bahasa Abdullah.

Beberapa waktu lalu, di Jakarta, Amin meluncurkan bukunya, Karya Lengkap
Abdullah bin Abdul Kadir Munsyi. Isinya, edisi pertama Kisah Pelayaran Abdullah

BACAAN BERKAITAN :

Quote:

No doubt Abdullah can be said to be a great chronicler of his time, but as pointed
out by the late A. H. Hill in his translation of Hikayat Abdullah, Abdullah cannot be
relied upon for his facts and dates.

    A. E. Coope prefers to call him the "first Malay reporter", and in his Kesah Pelayaran
Abdullah, he does give a picture of himself as a reporter, with his note-book and
pencil jotting down the things he saw and conversations he had with the various
people he met. But even as a reporter, Abdullah seems to fall somewhat short
of expectation. Abdullah made the voyage to Kelantan as an interpreter to a
mission sent by some Singapore merchants in connection with four sampan
pukat belonging to the Singapore merchants which were detained in Kelantan
because of a civil war taking place in that state.

But in his account of this voyage, Abdullah dwells very little on the subject of his
mission or of the civil war itself; and in the light of what actually took place,
Abdullah's account has a lacuna which needs to be filled in.

Quote:

Father of Modern Malay Literature is an epithet often ascribed to Abdullah bin
Abdul Kadir Munsyi, a Malay author who lived in Melaka and Singapore during
the first half of the nineteenth century. Two of his works, Hikayat Abdullah
(Tale of Abdullah) and Kisah pelayaran Abdullah ke Kelantan (Account of
Abdullah’s voyage to Kelantan) are the stories most often singled out as
those that form the bridge between traditional and modern Malay writing.

Characteristics of these writings viewed by critics as modern elements are
the foregrounding of the authorial self through the use of the first-person
pronoun, realistic descriptions of historical events and persons, and harsh
criticism of the culture, socio-political structure, and practices of the Malay
    community (Milner 1995).
