FILLER ENTRY : Sungai Kelantan

    FILLER ENTRY : Sungai Kelantan

    Kelantanese Summer and the Mighty River

* Top :
A man, pulling an empty cart to his boat for a new load of sand.
In a shed nearby, he was seen making cement bricks, a super cheap alternative to baked clay, using the sand taken from the river.

Hauling sand from the river for construction use is currently a lucrative business along the river.
However, many locals started to express concern over the activity as it is thought to contribute to the near disappearance of the once-very-abundant Etok ( a type of freshwater clam ) and also turning the water, notoriously murky. On the other hand, I think the cause for the latter, could be found further inland ......

For the side note, the green pasture seen on top, right hand side of the photo, is not the other river bank but an islet in the middle of Kelantan river.

* Bottom :
Emerging sandbank and an joyful evening ride on a motorboat.

Dryer months mean less rain and less rain means low water level and sandbanks, and also excellent time for myriads of activities associated with the river.

I notice these days that people are beginning to hit the river like never before.
Boat racing are getting common. Last time I even saw peoples with their jet-skis. What's next ? Parasailing ?
