...in Malaysia after 3 years abroad proved a little bit confusing... The weatherman, since the Northeast Monsoon is around the corner, told me days before that it will be raining non-stop in the East Coast for a whole Hari Raya week but what we got? Nice sunny days with rare blue skies, instead ! I think Malaysian Meteorological Dept. owes me a laugh or to be fair, an explanation will do, whether they are doing serious forecasting or Malaysian climatic changes are hard to predict or they just throwing dices on their weather maps for the day forecast .

Back in Japan, a country with hard-to-predict four seasons plus ocassional typhoons, the weather bureau predicts the country's climatic changes every hour with accuracy up to 80%, if not 100% ! In comparison, I think Malaysian accuracy may well be around 10% or so.. I was driving my car to work on one fine half-cloudy, half-sunny morning when the weather-forecast on radio informed me that it will be raining the whole day, and instead, a fine sunny day it was ! So, to make it short, it was a very nice sunny Hari Raya. The Kelantan crown prince, who currently residing close to my house, held a majestic fireworks display at 3:00 in the morning ! Aku ingat perang kat Iraq dah sampai Malaysia.. he.. he.. he.. I have a slight cough & cold to accompany me this Raya but I managed to visit few friends' & relatives houses ( tak berniat menyebar kuman ). The Crown Prince got married on the 15th Nov with banners portraying the newly-wed royal couple hanging across the state, by the roadsides especially for those stucked in Kota Bharu traffic jams to glance..... and ponder

SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI to all ! Hari Raya Aidilfitri kat Kelantan boleh dikatakan simple sahaja lebih lebih lagi bagi orang tua (dewasa) yang tak layak lagi menerima skim bantuan duit raya.. Bebudak?

Selalunya kat Kelate, ketupat daun palas bentuk tiga segi dan tapai pulut (*read: "tappe puluk") memang femes buat raya sejak dulu dulu lagih..
Furthermore, raya Aidilfitri tak der lah pulak Orghe Kelate raya sampai sebulan (open-house etc) mcm kat Pantai Barat, cuma paling lama beraya (dgn meriah) pun seminggu jer (itupun kalau tidak 3 hari ! ) Okey lah tuh, kat negara-negara Arab pun bukannya orang beraya puasa sebulan pun! Hehehe..

By the way, ada orang kata, kat Kelate lebih pentingkan Raya Haji (lebih meriah) .. emm.. entah laa, tak pernah membandingkan benda nih secara mendalam ngan negeri Pantai Barat, however masa aku kecik kecik dulu, memang Raya Posa laa best, dapat duit raya, dapat main bunga api (masa tuh tak haram lagi ) , dapat melaram ngan baju baru etc.. However, bagi aku, Raya Haji kat Kelate memang best sebab cuti 2 hari dan selain orang ajak makan kenduri daging korban (musim mabuk daging) , masjid yg banyak di seluruh negeri selalu mengalunkan takbir hari raya (yg bagi aku, cukup syahdu) for days (raya puasa sehari jer!) And therefore, Raya Haji at Kelate has it own charms.. Wallahu a'laamm...

Finally...

Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra ibni Sultan Ismail Petra
Kangsadal Pipitpakdee @ Tengku Zubaidah
..prince charming found his princess.. It was in the newspapers yesterday, brushing all previous gossips and strenghten the fact that the strong relationship between the state of Kelantan and the used-to-be Malay Kingdom of Pattani is still there.. Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra ibni Sultan Ismail Petra, the Crown Prince of Kelantan has asked Ms. Kangsadal Pipitpakdee of Pattani,Thailand, her hand in marriage.

The royal bride-to-be, Ms. Kangsadal or his Malay name, Tengku Zubaidah Tengku Norudin is a descendant of Pattani Royal house which used to rule over Pattani before it got annexed by Thailand in 1902 (now, a part of Southern Thailand, the last ruler was Sultan Abdul Kadir, dethroned by Siam (Thai) in 1909 after the Bangkok Agreement between Siam & British). Wanna know more bout that? Here's some "heavy" reading.

Okay, put aside the politics, for your info, Ms. Kangsadal is also happened to be the prince`s relative through his mother, the Queen of Kelantan. Now can u see the connection?
However, I am looking forward for the Crown Prince of Kelantan`s royal wedding on the 15th of November 2004, second day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Must be a grand one, rainy season edition of grandeur

Bazar Ramadan menjadi pesta makanan melampau

Wednesday, October 20 @ 15:27:53 MYT

Tempe..

.. famous among Indonesians & some Malaysians (especially of Javanese origin), this fermented soybean hardly made its way into Kelantanese cuisines and almost not known among locals & almost non-existence in the markets across Kelantan. I was lucky to find this one, hidden among various colorful vegetables, fish sauce & other village-produce at Siti Khadijah Wet Market in Kota Bharu... Sold in very limited numbers, small size, ideal to locals who normally do not consume it... I believe, this rare "specimen" is made by someone in Kelantan who believes that there must be somebody in the state who craze for this type of food .. and that person, whoever she/he is, through her/his decent-looking, one & only "tempe" product in Kelantan, had at least found me.. an avid lover of Tempe, the Malaysian "nattou"..

HAPPY RAMADHAN TO ALL FELLOW MUSLIMS
